The system ‘TheFoodConnect’ consists of highly customisable takeaway websites and a restaurant portal. The restaurant portal provides real-time order processing and a series of editors which allow the modification of the restaurant information, categories, menu items, and additional options for those menu items.
We created a demonstration website for 'Casablanca Takeaway' in the view of selling our product to them.
I was involded throughout the full developer life cycle of the project, from requirements gathering and design, to development, testing and implementation. I was the only developer working on this project and worked with designers. Towards the end of the project I trained colleagues on how to use the backend portal.
I also created guidance documentation instructing: how to use the system, how to create and populate a new takeaway website, and how to re-create it on another server or hosting plan.
I was involved throughout the full development life cycle of the project, from requirements gathering and design, to development, testing and implementation. I was the primary developer resource during the development phase of the website, but had guidance from a senior developer throughout.
I implemented several payment gateways for the customer facing restaurant websites, which allow many payment methods, including PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay and standard card payments.
When building the backend portal, I incorporated user accounts for both the takeaway and staff members at Gigawaffle. Standard Users (the takeaway) can access and edit their own takeaway information and menu, whereas Super Users (Gigawaffle) can create and edit all takeaways in the system. I made additional effor to ensure that each takeaway can only view and modify their own takeaway website from the portal.
Other features I implemented when building the system include:
- Using the Google Distance Matrix API to calculate the delivery price and whether the takeaway is within an acceptable range.
- Using Google Maps to show information about the route from the takeaway to the customer, that Google used to estimate the delivery time.
- Opening times which are displayed and are used to prevent new orders from being placed when the takeaway is closed.
- Email notifications to the takeaway and their customers regarding online orders.
- Using AJAX to update customers of the takeaway regarding their order as long as they stay on the order confirmation page.
- Customization of the colour scheme, images, contact information, menu, opening times, delivery ranges and prices, etc.
